Barca held by 10-man Racing

Posted by kwame on August 26, 2007

A lethargic-looking Barcelona were held to a 0-0 draw by 10-man Racing Santander in their opening match of the season on Sunday.

The Catalans, who spent over 65 million euros ($88 million) on new players including France striker Thierry Henry during the close season, were outplayed by their modest opponents who are one of the lowest spenders in the Primera Liga.

Barca dominated possession but their sluggish passing and lack of spark up front meant that Racing had little problem holding them even after Polish debutant Ebi Smolarek was sent off midway through the second half.

Villarreal, who ended last season on an eight match winning run, picked up where they left off with an emphatic 3-0 victory over regional rivals Valencia, who were reduced to nine men after red cards for striker David Villa and winger Joaquin.

Nani rescues Man Utd

Posted by kwame on August 26, 2007

Manchester United’s latest Portuguese teen sensation rescued their Premier League title defence from the brink of oblivion at Old Trafford.

Man Utd wins for the first time

Posted by kwame on August 26, 2007

The Man Utd – Spurs game was one of the best games so far in the premiership. It was full of skill, power and agility and even though I was rooting for Spurs to win, due to the fact that I dislike Man Utd, (as a result of Ferguson’s arrogance) I must say that Nani’s goal was spectacular.

Both teams had a lot of chances to score and i feel for Spurs because in my opinion they should have been awarded at least one penalty in the second half.

Chelsea on top of table

Posted by kwame on August 26, 2007

I just want to point out that with Chelsea on top of the premier league table, this is how it’s going to remain for the rest of the season so all you non-Chelsea fans can just forget the title this year.

Long live Chelsea!!
